The 2024 Daytona 500 was Joe Gibbs Racing’s first step towards winning a 6th Cup Series Championship. Following a 2023 season that saw just one of its drivers compete for the title in the Championship 4 at Phoenix, the restart was a welcomed one with renewed hopes. However, the first race of the season did not leave a big impression. With last year’s title contender Christopher Bell leading the team’s line-up with a 3rd place finish, here’s a glimpse at how well the others fared.

Denny Hamlin went to the 2.5-mile speedway as a favorite to win. A three-time winner of the 500, a fourth win would have put him alongside Cale Yarborough on the all-time winners list. However, the #11 driver would not find his way to the lead of the pack until the final stage. Not long after he did, he became entangled in the Big One that involved 18 cars on the field with less than 10 laps to go. He ultimately ended the day in 19th position, having led 10 laps.

Martin Truex Jr. was last year’s regular season champ. He started the race from 27th position and climbed up the ladder expertly. He finished Stage 1 at 9th position behind Hamlin who ran 7th at the time. He followed that up with a 14th-place finish in Stage 2. The final stage saw him be a part of the same wreck that caught Hamlin. He ended the race 15th and took home 24 points.

Ty Gibbs was the worst performer of the day for Joe Gibbs Racing. He began his run from 15th on the grid and dropped down as the race progressed. Trailing his teammates for most of the race he finished the day at 17th place ahead of Hamlin. He led no laps and cashed in 20 points for his efforts.

Christopher Bell continues being the face of Joe Gibbs Racing

The #20 Toyota Camry driver started the Daytona 500 from 4th on the grid. He pretty much led his teammates for much of the race but fell back multiple positions towards the end of Stage 2. The two wrecks that engulfed the field helped him find his way to the top during the final stage. End of the day, only Joey Logano led more laps (45) than Bell. The JGR driver’s Camry was one of the cars that were left unaffected by the final stage’s Big One and helped him to the checkered flag.

Despite the top-five finish, Bell doesn’t see things as ideal. He said in his post-race interview, “We showed a lot of pace between the Duel and the early part of the race. When we had track position, we were fast. But I don’t know. Didn’t go our way and we need to study it.” Bell and his team will have their next shot at the victory lane on February 25 in Atlanta.

Since it first came out, Netflix’s five-part docuseries NASCAR: Full Speed has left the viewers with two verdicts. One; it’s a must-watch and two; they want more. However, despite being in it, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell revealed in an interview with Bob Pockrass that he has still not watched the series. But why so? Let’s find out.

The Fox Sports journalist was curious if the reason was that Bell didn’t want to relive the disappointment of making it to Championship 4 and still not winning the title. However, Bell assured that the fact that he has not watched the series yet has nothing to do with that.

“Basically, my entire life…I don’t know, I don’t like watching my own interviews, so I don’t watch any of my own interviews,” said the Toyota driver. “I don’t watch myself on camera. I can watch myself racing and stuff…most of the time I watch that (interviews) I am just like what was I thinking?”

Fans rallied behind Christopher Bell’s down-to-earth nature

Christopher Bell is one of those drivers who is never flashy and always devoted to doing the work that’s expected of him. This soft-spoken man is so close to the earth that he doesn’t really enjoy the exposure that the sport caters to its athletes. All he wants to do is to win races and make it big in his life as a race car driver.

Needless to say, such a selfless and work-centric attitude garnered applause from several fans on X.

Someone said,

Another one wrote,

A fan regarded C. Bell as one of their favorites and commented,

On that note, another wrote,

Someone recalled the time when they had met Bell in person and said,

While few drivers might have wanted earnestly to feature in the new documentary, Bell hasn’t even watched the series even after being in it. This only adds to how humble and straightforward he is with his role in NASCAR.

At just 29, Christopher Bell is on his fifth season as a full-time Cup Series driver, with this year being his fourth with Joe Gibbs Racing. And in just his brief stint at NASCAR’s top-tier racing, Bell has won in every season and has appeared in the Championship 4 for two consecutive years. Despite his success, he is quite underrated. Nobody refers to him as the “Top Dog”. Why is it so?

In a recent interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Bell admitted that he wants to etch his name among the winningest drivers. “I want to be known for winning races, and I have not won enough to be that guy,” said Bell. “I know I have all the tools in front of me to go out there and do it. So hopefully in 12 months, we’re having a different conversation where I’m not overlooked.” However, there is another reason why Bell just misses the spotlight every time. After all, veteran racers like Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., and Ty Gibbs are his teammates.

Hamlin is a senior athlete, with his usual villainous demeanor and a fan-favorite podcast. Plus, he has an array of memorable quotes that make him one of the most-talked-about drivers in the sport. Although Truex Jr. isn’t that outspoken, he is a former Cup Series champion, and just by sheer talent and charisma, he leaves his opponents scratching their heads as to how to beat him. Compared to Hamlin and Truex, Gibbs is very young, but his aggressive moves in the lower tiers of the NASCAR racing series often garner a lot of attention.

Bell is neither outspoken nor is he flashy by any means. All he knows is his game. He believes that actions speak louder than words and that is exactly what he says he will prove this year.

Christopher Bell keeps the banner of Toyota flying high

Toyota didn’t appear to have enough speed during the Daytona 500 single-lap qualifying session. The highest Toyota driver was Erik Jones, and that was a P22. Even 7X Cup champ and Hall of Famer Jimmie Johnson, who has switched from Chevrolet to Toyota this year, seemed to lack speed. However, Christopher Bell and his fellow TRD driver, Tyler Reddick, upheld the banner of the company and with that, the name of their respective teams.

Reddick emerged victorious in the 60-lap shootout in Duel 1, while Jimmie Johnson passed J. J. Yeley and secured his spot in the 500 on the last lap. Needless to say, such a dramatic turn of events was quite enthralling to watch. Reddick’s winning momentum was carried forward by Bell when the latter passed his teammate and Reddick’s boss, Denny Hamlin, on the final lap of Duel 2.

It would be great to watch Bell win this year’s Daytona 500. For one, it would be a follow-up to his resolution of being a driver who is known for winning races, and two, it would lock him into the playoffs and confirm his chance of a third consecutive Championship 4 appearance. But let’s hope that his brake rotor doesn’t blow off like last time.

Ask any NASCAR fan who their favorites are for the Cup championship ahead of a season’s start, and there are usually those four or five recurring names such as Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, or an underdog like Ross Chastain. But then there’s Christopher Bell, who despite not being a first pick or a second pick or even a third pick of many, found his way into the final 4 of the last two seasons.

And if Denny Hamlin’s daughter is to be believed, Bell is all set to have yet another stellar campaign. So much so, that in Taylor Hamlin’s prediction, Bell wins the whole thing.

During an episode of his podcast show, Hamlin asked his daughter, “You can’t say my name. Who wins the championship next year if you had to predict?”

“I don’t know why, but I’m just getting some Christopher Bell moments right now,” she said. “I think he will.”

This was a moment that induced the feeling of Déjà vu in Hamlin. “I just had a Déjà Vu moment. I feel like Taylor said before that she’s on Christopher Bell train,” the #11 driver said, to which his daughter reacted, “No, I said it was only Kurt Busch train.”

“Well, that train left the station a few years ago,” Hamlin replied.

Christopher Bell is recycling his old NASCAR goals for 2024

During a recent interview, Christopher Bell opened up on the goals he set a couple of years ago and why he’s sticking to them in 2024. “Going into 2022, we set goals and I’ll be honest, we haven’t met them yet,” Bell told The Oklahoman.

“So we just keep copy-and-pasting them from ‘22 to ‘23 and now to ‘24. The goals are very attainable. They’re very lofty goals, but if we execute … we have the potential to do really good things in this sport.”

Heading into the Daytona 500, Bell mentioned how he isn’t feeling very comfortable, but that’s the case with every other driver in that race, “unless they’re OK with crashing.” Bell backed his claim by mentioning how he has competed in four Daytona 500s in his career so far but has only managed to finish one.

Still, he remained hopeful of just showing up to the race, and hoping for this year to be his year.

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell is a staunch believer in the saying that goes like “actions speak louder than words.” Will he ever win the NMPA Most Popular Driver Award? He doesn’t care. Will he attract followers on social media? He doesn’t care about that either. So what is it that this Oklahoma native cherishes the most?

It is winning races. As long as Bell is winning races, he doesn’t care if his time under the limelight is cut short. Last year, he earned six poles throughout the year, with three of them coming consecutively in the playoff races at Darlington, Kansas, and Bristol. With a dominant victory at Homestead-Miami over the reigning Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney, he made it to Championship 4. He is the only driver to have made it to the final race of the season every year since the dawn of the Next-Gen era.

However, in NASCAR’s newest five-part docuseries, Bell has been portrayed as a driver who works away from the radar, which often glorifies his teammates Martin Truex Jr. and Denny Hamlin. Needless to say, the Toyota icon doesn’t have an issue with that. He said in the documentary, “I’m very quiet, reserved. I keep to myself. I don’t want to be known for social media or known for doing dumb stuff. I want to be known for winning races. I haven’t won enough to be that guy yet. One day, I will.”

Christopher Bell doesn’t believe in a Plan B

Bell finished the 2023 season 4th in overall points. The #20 driver has proved several times that he has the speed that it takes to make it big in NASCAR. The JGR star has won a variety of races held at a variety of tracks ranging from road courses to ovals and back to dirt tracks. For someone of his repertoire, surely, there must have been no alternative plan.

And it is true. Bell’s life is all about cars and racing. He had never wanted to do anything else. “I never had Plan B. There was no Plan B,” admitted the 2017 Truck Series champ. “I was gonna make it happen, whether it was dirt-track racing or NASCAR racing. I didn’t even think it was going to be NASCAR racing. So, I was committed. Ever since I was in my early teens, I just wanted to be a race car driver.”

Unlike many young speedsters today, Bell doesn’t hail from a racing background. His father, David, used to take him to the I-44 Speedway to watch races when the latter was barely 4 years old. After that, Bell’s entire youth was spent racing in dirt tracks in Tulsa, Claremore, Fort Cobb, and other places in Oklahoma. It didn’t take long for Bell to start competing at a national level, thanks to his talent.

The Toyota machine’s relentless will was behind many achievements in the Joe Gibbs Racing garage last year. Christopher Bell went as far as the Championship 4, Martin Truex Jr. won the regular season, and Denny Hamlin brought in 3 wins through the 998 laps that he led. Heading to 2024, which of these drivers could champion Toyota the best?

For most people, Denny Hamlin tops the list. Currently 43 years old, Hamlin has entered the playoffs every season since the elimination format was introduced in 2014. 28 of his 48 wins come in this elimination era, during which he also has consecutive seasons with at least 6 wins.

He has mastered the crown jewel races with wins in the Daytona 500 (3), the Southern 500 (3), and the Coca-Cola 600 (1). He enters 2024 as the winningest active driver behind only Kyle Busch. His presence in the 2024 Busch Light Clash was a doubt for a certain period owing to his right shoulder surgery in the offseason but he is expected to be a part of the exhibition event on February 4.

Despite his increasing age, Hamlin will continue firing for the title that has eluded him for the last two decades. In the process, he stands as the favorite to give Toyota its fourth manufacturer championship.

Can Christopher Bell and Martin Truex Jr. jump past their teammate in 2024?

Championship 4 contender Christopher Bell comes runner-up on the Power Rankings. The 29-year-old was the 2017 Truck Series champion and has won 17 Xfinity Series races for Toyota. Since moving to the top tier in 2020, he has won 6 races and found himself in the Championship 4 race twice, both in the Next Gen car. His average finish rate has also been going up every season.

Third on the list is the 2017 Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. with 32 wins for Toyota in the last 19 seasons. Truex Jr. had a love-hate relationship with his #19 car last year. Though it aided him finish out the regular season as the points leader, it let him down with constant issues in the playoffs. A blown engine at the Homestead-Miami race in October closed the shutters on his season with disappointment.

Both these drivers have a good shot at running the show for Toyota ahead of Hamlin. However, it is no secret that all three JGR teammates could use some favorable winds heading into the season, for misfortune was their biggest enemy in 2023.

Besides being known as one of the most successful Hendrick Motorsports drivers, Christopher Bell has recently made it to the headlines as one of the drivers starring in the upcoming Netflix docuseries, NASCAR: Full Speed. But when he is away from his day job, the JGR speedster can be seen spending time with his longtime partner and wife, Morgan Kemenah. Here’s everything you need to know about Bell’s better half.

Who is Morgan Kemenah?

Like Christopher Bell, Kemenah too hails from a racing background. Born on 27th December 1995, this 27-year-old co-owns a racing team with her father, Brian Kemenah. Last year, Brian partnered up with Bell to launch Bell Kemenah Racing, an open-wheel race team. Even Morgan’s uncle Chad is a former Sprint Car racer who has previously taken part in the prestigious All-Star Circuit of Champions and the World of Outlaws.

How did the lovebirds meet?

What started as a normal friendship back in 2010, didn’t take long to gain momentum and turn into a full-fledged relationship. After a few years of dating, Bell popped the big question in 2018. Of course, Morgan said yes! After being engaged with the NASCAR star, Morgan posted a picture of the engagement ring amidst the backdrop of a Christmas tree and captioned it: “My best friend of 4 1/2 years asked, so of course I said YES! I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you Christopher.”

When did Christopher Bell and his better half get married?

The couple tied the knot in 2020 and no sooner than they did, Bell took to social media to post a selfie with his newly married bride and wrote, “#Hitched”. The grand wedding happened at the Coley Hall at The Liberty in North Carolina, just a week before Bell was about to compete in his debut Cup Series race at the iconic Daytona International Speedway.

Morgan, Bell’s partner on and off the track

There have been countless instances of the couple exchanging heartwarming moments and sweet kisses before and after the races, regardless of what the outcome of those races might have been. This shows how strong the bond between Bell and Kemenah actually is. But even away from the track, Kemenah’s life revolves around Bell and vice versa.

One look at Kemenah’s Instagram and one would spot only a handful of posts that do not have the lucky man in them. Recently, Morgan shared a cute montage of the duo on the occasion of Bell’s birthday and wrote, “I want to wish the happiest birthday to the person I love most. You make it so easy to celebrate you,” she wrote in the caption. “Here’s to many more birthdays with you Christopher David.”

What Bell and Kemenah share is perhaps the dream of every couple out there. And whenever this power couple of NASCAR makes any public appearance, they make sure to form relationship goals for their fans, both on the internet and in real life.

It has been almost half a decade since Joe Gibbs Racing won their last NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2019. Perhaps that is the reason why Toyota, as a manufacturer, is getting a bit impatient. It goes with saying that JGR has to pull up their socks without any further ado and bring their absolute best in the upcoming season.

On that note, Toyota Racing Development’s president David Wilson spoke to SiriusXM NASCAR radio and while doing so, he didn’t pull any punches mouthing his expectations from the winningest Toyota team in NASCAR. “Four cars in the playoffs, two cars all the way to Phoenix. Anything less will be disappointing,” he stated bluntly.

When Kyle Busch left Joe Gibbs Racing, Ty Gibbs had not even completed a year at the Cup level. Indeed, there were other drivers like Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., and Christopher Bell to hold the reins. But now that Gibbs has completed a year of driving in the Cup Series, he is perhaps more experienced and capable of contending for the win. No wonder why Wilson thinks that the #54 driver will go on to win races this year.

But when it came to the #11 driver, Wilson’s confidence seemed to know no bounds. Despite acknowledging Hamlin’s playoff failure, Wilson said “Denny’s going on his 18th season, I believe… Denny has proven to all of us, that being a team owner wasn’t going to take away his talent and capability behind the wheel.”

“I think he’s done some things in the off season to help stabilise him in many respects. Think that’s only going to make him that much more of a danger,” he concluded.

Toyota’s ambition this year is on another level

Just like Joe Gibbs Racing, Toyota is fairly new to the NASCAR Cup Series. Toyota joined forces with Joe Gibbs Racing just in 2007 and since then, they have just two championship titles to their credit, thanks to Kyle Busch. Although, Toyota has a third manufacturer’s title as well but that was with Martin Truex Jr. during his Front Row Motorsport days back in 2017.

To be square and clear, the Toyota teams will have to rev up their engines as soon and as hard as possible. As Wilson stated, he wants all four cars in the playoffs. From then on, he would love to see at least two of his cars in the Championship 4.

Needless to say, JGR will get the priority as it is a top team. Nevertheless, 23XI Racing too, is a team to look out for. Not to mention, Legacy Motorclub, who’s looking forward to its first season after having switched to Toyota.

Wouldn’t it be fascinating if the fans of NASCAR got the chance to watch their favorite drivers in action in a Netflix documentary? Although it has happened before in 2022 with “Race: Bubba Wallace”, there weren’t any such docuseries based on the sport of NASCAR alone. However, now there is.

Following the overwhelming success of the Formula 1 documentary, Drive to Survive, NASCAR has also announced a new, five-part documentary series produced by Connor Schell, Aaron Cohen, Ben Kennedy, Matt Summers, Tally Hair, NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, Tim Clark, and last but not the least the two-time Xfinity Series champ and Hall of Famer, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Starring in this masterpiece are seasoned speedsters like the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney, Team Penske’s Joey Logano, Hendrick Motorsports duo Kyle Larson and William Byron, 7-times Pocono champion Denny Hamlin, Ross “Melonman” Chastain, Joe Gibbs Racing sensation Christopher Bell, 23XI Racing icon Tyler Reddick and of course, his teammate, Bubba Wallace.

Although there has been no official information about this, it is expected that each of the episodes in this Netflix original will vividly portray the struggle of these nine drivers to win the Cup Series title.

Release date, where, and how can you watch the upcoming NASCAR Netflix Series?

The most awaited docu-film is expected to be released just five days ahead (January 30) of the first race of the 2024 Cup season at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on February 4. Those who are eagerly waiting for it, can watch NASCAR: Full Speed exclusively on Netflix with prices for the subscription starting at just $6.99 a month.

Besides that, it can also be streamed online on smart TVs, phones, and tablets via the Netflix app.

As for why should one watch it? Well, the answer was given by Tim Clark himself. He claimed that NASCAR is the most competitive form of motorsport on the planet. And not everybody gets the chance to witness its fullest fury.

Hence, this docuseries will allow them to see the aggression of the sport and the skill of the drivers up close as they rock their high-speed machines around 38 other cars, darting forth for that one cherished ride down the victory lane. Additionally, when “Drive to Survive” aired, it did not just entertain the viewers but helped increase the viewership significantly, simultaneously driving ticket sales and attracting more sponsors to the sport.

Needless to say, NASCAR too, expects a similar response to its soon-to-release documentary.

After what happened during the Championship 4 race last year, Christopher Bell perhaps needed a jumpstart before the upcoming season. Rheem, an industry pioneer in providing innovative air, water, and pool solutions for homes and businesses has come up with just that. And it is the brand new paint scheme of C. Bell’s 2024 ride.

The original red, black, and white skin has now been replaced with a sleeker and much cooler, black and white scheme, with a unique red outline. Rheem will be sponsoring the #20 Camry with the new look for 14 races, including the Brickyard 400, the Coca-Cola 600, the Southern 500, and the most-awaited, inaugural Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway.

Needless to say, the fans went gaga over the dashing look. Someone said,

Christopher Bell could make a 2023 repeat this year

The most intriguing thing about the sport of NASCAR is perhaps its element of unpredictability. Last year, when Hendrick Motorsports star Kyle Larson beat Bell at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and booked the first seat in the championship race, the majority of fans blamed the Oklahoma native for not having tried hard enough.

Just one week from that race, Bell snatched his spot in the Championship 4 and silenced all his haters. While his teammate Denny Hamlin got in on points, Bell earned his spot through a dominant victory at Homestead-Miami. Even Martin Truex Jr. fell short of making it to the final race and fell out of contention.

Back in 2022, it was a bad pit stop. In 2023, it was a brake failure. Nevertheless, the #20 pilot feels like a breakthrough is on the way. And in order to do that, he will strive to win as many races as he can, which, in turn, make his third consecutive Championship 4 appearance smooth.
