With 41 winners being announced till now since its inception in 1982, most candidates are eager to know who will take home the award this year. This award has become a symbol of excellence in the world of gymnastics. This year, an exceptional 50 senior female gymnastics athletes were nominated, showcasing the depth of talent in women’s gymnastics. However, how are these candidates selected?

Every year, the head coaches submit a nomination for the candidate or candidates of their choice who they believe deserve this prestigious recognition. Out of these candidates, they later narrow down the list to 6 athletes, from which they declare one as the winner.

The Marketing Manager for AAI, Lisa Ebersole, who has been part of this initiative, says it’s been an incredible journey. The privilege for her to witness how much of an impact this award has created on these athletes is priceless.

Cribbing about how she ran into an apparel-size issue, Biles took to her official ‘X’ account to rant about it. Her complaints were followed by a cry for help since the situation didn’t witness a light at the end of the tunnel. And fans came in full force to help out. 

Expressing her annoyance on the subject, Biles revealed how she couldn’t get the clothes that appropriately fit her. This problem was occurring far too frequently now, and she was at her wits’ end.

For reference, the gymnast was 4’8 and weighed around 103 lbs. However, her clothes seemed to be too big or ill-fitting for petite people like her. Therefore, she asked her fans if they could suggest places to shop for clothes. 

One of the fans quickly provided the perfect solution to Biles’ apparel predicament.

Garrett Blakesslee Vs. Ronald Staton – Light Heavyweight

Blakesslee came into the arena with full rage and knocked out Ronald Staton with one slap. Dana White, who was seated watching the slap, was in shock and said, “God damn, that was fu**ing nasty.”

It was one of the most impressive slaps seen on Power Slap, and Dana White called Garrett a “gangster.”

Logan Greenhalgh Vs. Will Woods – Heavyweight

22-year-old Logan Greenhalgh wasted no time after appearing for the match. He threw a slap so hard that his opponent fell to sleep immediately after being knocked out.

The founder of Power Slap, Dana White, believes Logan is here to stay and has the chin and power to succeed in the sport.

Danie van Heerden Vs. Jonathan Boone – Super Heavyweight

Heerden, A.K.A. Danie Pitbull, slapped Jonathan Boone so hard that they had to stop the match. Later, they took his opponent to the doctor for a check-up. Heerden loves his competition and believes he is one of the best in the sport.

Ryan Wallace Vs. Sorin Cosma – Light Heavyweight

Ryan Wallace won the toss and took the first strike against Cosma. Wallace landed a powerful strike that made his opponent unsteady for a while. Sorin Cosma, however, known for his willpower, came back stronger and threw a powerful slap against Wallace that saw him fall right down.

Dana White couldn’t believe what he saw after this slap fight.

Brian Ellis Vs. Miles Jackson – Heavyweight

Brian Ellis took his opponent, Miles Jackson, down in no time and looked like an animal, all ready to conquer the world. The fight was completed in no time.

Delvin Hamlett Vs. Jonathan Correa – Heavyweight

Delvin Hamlett’s single slap made Jonathan Correa drop to sleep in seconds. Though the referees gave him the required recovery time, Correa could not stand up straight, letting Hamlett win with a powerful slap.

Branden Bordeaux Vs. Eddie Brahimir – Middleweight

One of the most epic showdowns of the fight was between Branden Bordeaux and Eddie Brahimir. Both were not ready to give up after landing vicious slaps at each other. However, it was Bordeaux who took home the win after a unanimous decision.

Dana White, on the other hand, was mighty impressed with Eddie Brahimir for his attitude of never giving up.

Merlis Muusikus Vs. Johnny Anderson – Middleweight

Merlis Muusikus walked onto the stage like he had no time to waste. He came in and slapped Anderson as hard as ever. Muusikus was ready to knock him out in the very first round, but his Johnny “Be Good” Anderson put up a fight. The amazing fight came to a close in the second round, with Merlis taking home the win.

Branden Bordeaux Vs. Joseph Landman – Middleweight

Branden Bordeaux considers him the best in the sport, and he slapped Joseph Landman hard. It was so hard that it could be proclaimed the hardest hit ever in power slap.

Eddie Smith Vs. Sean Kilmartin – Welterweight 

Smith has an impressive blow, with Sean Kilmartin citing a clear win. His clean hit was an easy fail for Kilmartin, and the fight was intense. However, the coach and White were impressed with Slambo.

Merlis Muusikus Vs. Garrett Grimes – Middleweight 

Muusikus made a strong strike, but Grime’s withstood with strength. An energetic Grimes was jeering, “Not today, baby, let’s go.” Grimes made a perfect strike, upon which Muusikus stumbled but still stood. Muusikus’s second strike was equally strong, but Grimes emerged as the winner.

Dana White opined that both of them are tough while assessing the strikes.

Makini Manu Vs. Hayden Southall – Super Heavyweight 

Makini defeated Southall almost on the first blow, with Southall flinching and stumbling. It was later revealed that Hayden had immense tension about the match, which cost him the spot at Power Slap.

Eddie Brahimir Vs. Amir Nuriddeen – Middleweight 

Brahimir delivered a hard slap against the Nuriddeen with no retaliation. He is the only Canadian on the roster and is one of the prospective middleweight contenders. White even opined that Brahimir’s power is against a seasoned veteran and that he belongs in the organization.

Logan Greenhalgh Vs. Delvin Hamlett – Heavyweight 

Hamlett struck first with a strong blow, but Greenhalgh withstood it for his turn. But he missed on his chance, giving Hamlett leverage when he went to the second round.

Garrett Blakesslee Vs. Cody Belisle – Light Heavyweight 

Blakesslee put all the heat up his sleeve for the fight and didn’t disappoint. His hard blow was sustained for a while, and Cody Belisle was almost on his knees.

Danie Van Heerden Vs. Cody Vallo – Super Heavyweight

Another contender that was looked at with lots of expectation was Danie Van Heerden, who employed a lot of strength and put on a good show. He slapped Cody Vallo with fierce power after trash-talking him. Founder Dana White even shared that his personality, chin, and power are what the sport needs.

Dana White invited a host of different celebrities, influencers, and fighters to the Power Slap 6 events in Las Vegas. Among them were three of the biggest streamers.

Kai Cenat, IShowSpeed, and Adin Ross are three of the biggest streamers in the world and during the press conference, White praised them, saying:

“The most powerful people on the internet were in this room tonight that most of you don’t even know. Kai and Speed and Adin Ross are the three biggest streamers in the world and they were in there tonight streaming.”

Lightweight matches

Robert Trujillo vs. Dallas Marron

After warning his opponent to be ready for the force he was about to bring, Trujillo successfully knocked out Marron in the second round. His undeterred defense and powerful strikes made Trujillo a fan favorite.

Sheena Bathory vs. Jackie Cataline
This match was unique for many reasons. The showdown was one of the co-main events since it was the only female slap-fighting match at the Power Slap 6. Both competitors were trained in wrestling and were ready to knock out one another. The first strike came from Cataline, who instantly managed to KO Bathory. However, the replay revealed that the athlete made an illegal move by hitting her neck instead of her face, which brought her disqualification right away. In the end, Bathory won on account of her competitor’s disqualification, who walked off stage right away in frustration.

Middleweight matches

Branden Bordeaux vs. Eddie Brahimir

This match was part of the early prelims and ended in an unceremonious draw between Bordeaux and Brahimir.

Wesley Drain vs. Garrett Grimes

Drain defeated Grimed with a score of 28-27 via a unanimous decision.

Light heavyweight match

Garrett Blakesslee vs. TJ Thomas

With just one match under this category, fans saw some intervention from officials when they declared TJ Thomas the winner. Garrett Blakesslee was disqualified on account of clubbing.

Heavyweight matches

Duane Crespo vs. Logan Greenhalgh

Crespo scored a fair win against Greenhalgh, with a unanimous decision to back it up.

Delvin Hamlett vs. Vernon Cathey

In one of the most nail-biting matches of the event, Cathey knocked out Hamlett with an impressive strike in the second round.

Nate Burnard vs. Ryan Phillips

Burnard had fans’ hopes up high, being one of the top-scoring heavyweight champions. However, Phillips came in with an impressive set of hits and knocked out his opponent in the second round.

Dorian Perez vs. Brian Ellis

This was one of the matches where the twists were never-ending. Despite Perez’s excellent defenses, he lacked at making legal strikes. With two fouls to his name, Perez lost to Ellis.

Super heavyweight match

Danie van Heerden vs. Makini Manu

A match between best friends took an unexpected turn when Heerden made an illegal move against Manu. The sumo wrestlers made it to round 2 before Heerdan made a clubbing foul that caused some temporary hearing troubles to Manu. The latter won on account of the disqualification of his opponent.

Welterweight matches

Cole Young vs. Zachary Zane

In one of the most emotional matches of the event, Young made it to the arena despite a mountain of tragedies hitting him weeks before the competition. The former battled for the latter’s welterweight title and was well-prepared. The match was set for five rounds, and the criteria for disqualification was three fouls. Despite Thomas’ previous wins, he managed to commit two fouls throughout the match. In the end, Muniz came with a strong hit and knocked out Thomas in the last round, thus winning the title.

After a successful season with many athletes emerging as big-time winners, the committee announced the final dates for the next Power Slap event.

Power Slap 7 will take place on April 12, with the World Light Heavyweight Championship match between athletes Austin Turpin and Ron ‘Wolverine’ Bata.

The event, organized at the Durango Resort in Las Vegas by UFC CEO Dana White, witnessed celebrities like Tom Brady, Travis Scott, Charles Barkley, Darren Jason Watkins Jr., a.k.a. IShowSpeed, The Chainsmokers, and many more. They participated in banter while athletes threw some powerful slaps during their matches.

Other guests included bodybuilder Flex Lewis, NFL stars Johnny Manziel and Taylor Lewan, and comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura. The entire event saw 12 matches in total, with two main events.
