One of the six players bought by Rajasthan Royals during Indian Premier League 2024 auction last month, uncapped hard-hitting batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore is yet another English signing by the franchise.

Kohler-Cadmore, who will be rubbing shoulders with English white-ball captain Jos Butler in IPL 2024, will also share the dressing room with established international cricketers namely Ravi Ashwin, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Ashwin, in particular, is quite excited for the 29-year old player, who was sold for his base price of INR 40 lakh in what will be his maiden season of the biggest T20 league across the globe. Ashwin, who has been representing the franchise since 2022, shared an interesting connection with Mick Kohler-Cadmore, Tom’s father, on his YouTube channel.

Tom, who plies his trade for Somerset at the moment, had made his county debut at Worcestershire a decade ago. Co-incidentally, Ashwin’s county debut had also happened at Worcestershire in 2017. In the video, Ashwin recalled how Kohler-Cadmore’s father helped him out in every single activity especially during his first 10 days.

“Mick Cadmore, Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s father, was my first-ever county stint dressing room attendant and helped me in the time I spent at county cricket in England. When I went to England to play county cricket, the first 10 days were very difficult to start with, as we needed to do everything for ourselves. Right from the laundry to food, his father helped me out in everything there for the first 10 days, and I am very grateful for him. In fact, when I went there, he had just moved to Yorkshire from Worcestershire. He’s a man of gold. An amazing human being. I’m so happy I’ll get to play with his son now,” Ashwin said.

RR, of late, have been quite keen on employing English cricketers. In the recent past, gun players in Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Tom Curran, Liam Livingstone, Joe Root, etc. have all played for the Royals. This may also be indicative, in a way, of the presence of owners Manoj Badale, a British-Indian, and Lachlan Murdoch, an Australian-British-American businessmen.

Ever since Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty were ousted as their owners, Badale and Lachlan took over the franchise. Given their British roots, they might just have a closer view of domestic cricket in the country, enabling them to have their best picks.

Ravi Ashwin County Career Details

In his debut season for Worcestershire, Ashwin picked up three wickets against Gloucestershire. Aged 30 then, Ashwin had given county cricket a try to fulfill one of his dreams. He was instrumental in promoting the club to Division One by taking 20 wickets and averaging 42 with the bat in hand.

The following year, he was all set to go back to the same county after heaps of negotiations between the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and Matt Rawnsley, the then CEO of Worcestershire. However, he had to withdraw at the last moment due to a groin injury.

For the second half of County Championship 2019, Ashwin was signed by Nottinghamshire and he fared decently once again. He took 34 wickets and scored 339 runs at an average of 37.66. Slated to play for Yorkshire in 2020, the deal was called-off mutually amid the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

Seven years after former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram designated Australian speedster Mitchell Starc as a better fast bowler than his South African and English counterparts in Dale Steyn and James Anderson respectively, he has hailed the 41-year-old Englishman and Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami as the only two current bowlers with a “perfect seam position”.

Among left-arm pacers, Akram and Starc are the highest and third-highest wicket-takers in international cricket respectively. Both of them participated in a swing bowling masterclass for Fox Cricket before the start of play on the second day of the recently concluded third Test between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney.

The discussion started with Akram asking Starc about how he, so brilliantly, gets the ball to nip back into a right-handed batter. Starc, while describing his masterly skills, disclosed holding the ball “straight down the seam” along with the axis, i.e., stitched part of the ball. When further probed by Akram about taking the ball away from right-handed batters, Starc, admitting he isn’t the best at it, said that he relies on the wobble seam which goes with the angle.

This is what brings them to discuss how important the “straight seam” is for any young bowler learning to bowl. Whether one tries to nip back in or take it away. Starc then pointed out the only two current bowlers who are proficient in this aspect.

” I think someone at the moment, or two guys at the moment, Jimmy Anderson and Mohammed Shami have got, you know, almost the perfect seam. They can swing it both ways and that’s probably the seam position that you wanna have,” Starc was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.

Mitchell Starc Was Correct In Naming James Anderson And Mohammed Shami As Perfect Seamers

The simple difference between ‘seam’ and ‘swing’ is that the former is what happens after an interaction between the ball and the pitch upon landing, and the latter is the movement that happens in the air. This is exactly why Starc was talking about the seam position since bowlers often hold a particular grip and land the on the surface in the hope of moving it at will.

However, it’s not always the case. As for swing, conditions play a very important role. Overcast, cloudy and windy conditions combined with chilly weather is a perfect-case scenario for swing bowling.

This precisely brings us to Anderson’s bowling style. With a perfect seam position, Anderson is pretty adept at swinging the ball both ways. Playing mostly in overcast English conditions also helps him. As a matter of fact, it has also earned him the nickname “Clouderson”, something he isn’t particularly happy about. Relying on the conditions, Anderson releases the ball with a lot of revolutions which helps him produce a persistent swing. The rest is up to the seam position.

On the other hand, Shami holds the seam position as straight as humanly possible and releases it with the same arc of motion. Playing in Indian conditions, Shami has no option than to rely on the surface to give himself an extra punch. Unlike Anderson, Shami relies on very minimal movement keeping the line and length of the ball straight. This poses a threat to batters for a chance of LBW and bowled, if nipped back in, or a thin edge, if moves away.

One particular delivery that comes to mind of Anderson is the one he bowled to former New Zealand captain and his current head coach Brendon McCullum during the first innings of the third Nottingham Test in 2008. Having picked his then career-best bowling figures of 7/43, Anderson’s ball to McCullum was otherworldly. When the ball had left his arm, it was angling towards middle and leg, maybe even going down leg. From there, it swung a mile to first open McCullum and then take the off-stump for a cartwheel.

As for Shami, his match-winning ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 hat-trick against Afghanistan will always remain memorable. Chasing a 225-run target, Afghanistan needed 12 runs off four balls when Shami kept all three of his balls straight as an arrow to earn two clean bowleds and a caught out. The seam position in each of those balls was perfect!

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, perhaps in an unreflective state of mind, had once decided to end his friendship ties with former pacer Paul Reiffel after he had dropped a “sitter” in a crunch ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 semi-final against South Africa.

Speaking to the ICC (International Cricket Council) on the day of another World Cup semi-final between the same two teams 24 years later, Ponting had recalled how Reiffel’s dropped catch led him to thoughts of his team getting eliminated.

Requiring 18 runs in two overs to chase down a 213-run target, the Proteas had lost a couple of wickets in the penultimate over bowled by Glenn McGrath. It was all down to all-rounder Lance Klusener to single-handedly play an ever-memorable cameo in an edge-of-the-seat thriller and take his side through to a World Cup final for the first time.

It seemed that the Goddess of fortune was on his side after what transpired on the fifth delivery of that over. McGrath bowled a fiery full toss aiming the stumps and the southpaw clobbered the ball powerfully towards Reiffel at long-on. Failing to judge the pace at which the ball was travelling towards him, Reiffel overran a tad bit only for the ball to pop out of his reverse-cupped hands and land over the boundary ropes.

Ponting, in the aforementioned interaction, claimed Reiffel’s dropped catch moment as the one where he could’ve drawn the friendship ending line between the two.

“Paul Reiffel dropped Lance Klusener at long-on off Mcgrath’s bowling. Not only was it a ‘sitter’, not only had he dropped him, but he actually parried it over the ropes for six. And I’m there sitting and thinking, ‘That’s the game, the game’s done’. I am thinking, ‘Paul, I am not gonna ever speak to you again. I think our friendship is over, I am not talking to you again’.”

This wasn’t the only opportunity lost by the Aussies as another one was yet to arrive. After Klusener nailed back-to-back boundaries in the final over to have his side just one run away from victory, he hit one straight to Darren Lehmann at short mid-on. Allan Donald, backing too far at the non-striker’s end, would have been run out by a fair margin had Lehmann not made a mess of a rather easy opportunity from such a small distance.

However, much to their delight, Donald had an unfortunate brain-fade moment the very next ball as he found himself way short of the crease at the striker’s end to finish the match in a tie. Courtesy of a higher finish at the Super 6 points table, Australia advanced through to the grand finale.

No one but the South African fans can better explain the meaning of the phrase “so close yet so far” as the scars of agony of those memories continue to have their heads shake in disbelief. In fact, years later, Donald even went on to compare the post-match dressing room environment to death!

Ricky Ponting And Paul Reiffel Were Involved In An Airborne Scuffle

Three years before the above mentioned incident, Ricky Ponting and Paul Reiffel were involved in an airborne scuffle while traveling from Indore to Bengaluru. Playing Titan Cup 1996 in India, the two fought over a petty issue only to sit out of the Playing XI in the next match against the hosts at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Reportedly, Ponting had taken a jibe at Reiffel after a co-passenger had spill his food all over the latter. Perhaps the words of mockery were too harsh for the fast bowler to dismiss it as just another banter, as it ultimately resulted in an ugly scuffle.

As a result, the then Australian captain Mark Taylor decided to impose a punishment (one-match ban) upon the two on grounds of indecency and irresponsible behaviour before the journalists and other commoners on board.

When Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled a ceaseless nine-over spell on the first day of the recently concluded second Test against South Africa in Cape Town, fans aplenty wrongly considered him to have bowled the longest bowling spell in Test cricket.

If truth be told, Siraj bowling nine overs on the trot is nowhere close to the world record held by former Indian spinner Narendra Hirwani. During the third Test of India’s tour of England 1990 at The Oval, Hirwani bowled an elongated 59-over spell.

Trailing by 0-1, India needed to win the match in order to level a three-match series. Fueled by individual centuries by all-rounder Ravi Shastri and former captain Kapil Dev, India had scored 606/9d in the first innings. Having enforced the follow-on after bundling out England for 340, India were in a position to win a Test at this venue after almost a couple of decades but it wasn’t to be.

Shastri had to don the captain’s hat after Mohammad Azharuddin left the field in the second innings because of a sore heel. To make optimum use of the available foot marks, Shastri had decided to give an unprecedented lengthy spell to Hirwani.

In spite of the leg-spinner not able to pick wickets, Shastri, who himself bowled 28 overs without dismissing a single batter in the second innings, persisted with him in not the most sensible of moves. Although Hirwani’s bowling figures of 59-18-137-1 were economical, England didn’t really mind facing him without any discomfort to eventually be able to draw the match.

Hirwani, who played his first Test against West Indies a couple of years ago, had registered the best bowling figures on debut. Interestingly, the feat had been achieved under Shastri at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Even though this world record hasn’t been breached in over three decades now, Hirwani was never able to bank on a sensational start to his international career. As a matter of fact, he played a lone Test in the next five years.

In his first four Tests, Hirwani scalped 36 wickets at home. A honeymoon period made way for struggles during overseas tours of West Indies and New Zealand. Furthermore, the emergence of legendary Anil Kumble further impacted Hirwani’s Test spot. For the unversed, Kumble had made his debut in Hirwani’s presence in the second Old Trafford Test of the above mentioned tour.

Longest Bowling Spell In Cricket

Keeping the unavailability of ball-by-ball commentary for a lot of matches in the past in mind, uncapped English pacer James Iremonger holds the record of bowling the longest bowling spell in first-class cricket as per ESPNCricinfo.

Playing for Nottinghamshire, his bowling figures of 66-28-81-3 in a drawn contest against Hampshire consisted of him bowling these many overs without being removed from the attack even once.

According to the same piece, a never-seen-before incident was brought to light by Combined Services’ duo of pacer Salahuddin and spinner Dildar Awan as they bowled 125.3 uninterrupted overs between them in a match-winning effort against Peshawar during a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 1961-62 match.

Having only played a couple of Test matches till now, South Africa batter David Bedingham is already related to several legendary players from an anecdotal point of view. Once termed as a cricket prodigy at school, Bedingham’s journey hasn’t been a five-finger exercise.

During his childhood, Bedingham went to the same school as former South African greats namely Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs, i.e., Wynberg Boys High School, Cape Town. As a matter of fact, South African professional cricketers sharing same schools isn’t novel by any means.

In an interview with PTI as quoted by India Today before the recently concluded second Test between South Africa and India at the Newlands, Bedingham labelled the legendary duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as his favourite Indian cricketers. Having modeled his technique in order to replicate them in various phases of his career, the right-handed batter must’ve been delighted to have made his debut against them last week.

“My two favourites among Indian players are [Rohit] Sharma and [Virat] Kohli. I think when I was between 13-18, I was trying to mould my technique like theirs [Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs] and when I had a bad game, I changed my technique to copy Kohli’s or try probably Sharma’s,” Bedingham told PTI.

Perhaps emulating such modern-day masters aided Bedingham in scoring an eye-catching 56 (87) on Test debut at the SuperSport Park. On a not-so-easy wicket to bat on, he showed his quality against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

Akin numerous South African cricketers, Bedingham also left the country in the hope of excelling in County cricket and eventually representing England in international cricket. However, UK’s departure from the European Union resulted in the revoke of the Kolpak rule.

Even though the season was cut shot due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic, Bedingham scoring a couple of half-centuries across eight innings in his debut season for Durham was enough to impress the club with regard to signing him for the next season.

During County Championship 2021, he repaid the faith by emerging as the highest run-scorer amassing 1,029 runs at an average of 60.52 including a career-best 257 (410) against Derbyshire at the Riverside Ground. Apart from scoring runs consistently, Bedingham also had the opportunity of rubbing shoulders with England Test captain Ben Stokes at Durham.

“I think he [Ben Stokes] refrained from talking about cricket a lot. He spoke about dealing with pressures, speaking to a world-class player like him did help handle the pressure better during the first Test,” Bedingham said.

David Bedingham Had Survived A Rishabh Pantesque Accident

Among a rare crop of international cricketers who prioritize Test cricket in this day and age, David Bedingham is a part of another sporadic list of cricketers who survived dangerous car accidents. For those who are unaware, Bedingham had omitted his name from SA20 2024 draft in order to tour New Zealand for a two-match Test series which will witness Neil Brand becoming the 35th cricketer to lead a national team on Test debut.

A year after former West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran was bedridden for six months and six years before India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant clung to life, Bedingham was also involved in a car crash. It all had happened during his second year of studies at Stellenbosch University.

Beddingham, who once admitted to be enjoying his freedom in college, had fallen asleep while driving home from a golf session while preparing for the Varsity Sports College Cricket tournament. What followed was a horrific car crash that left him with a broken femur and jaw.

“I think I have gone through a lot. Sounds cliché but where I was in 2016 to where I am now, maybe the opportunity to play a Test match at Newlands is quite special. Having my parents here, who have been through a lot. Me not finishing my studies, so, I definitely owe them a lot,” Bedingham added.

As a result, Bedingham couldn’t play cricket for over a year and still feels limitations in his leg movements. Additionally, he could neither complete his college degree but feels blessed that he is able to live his dreams despite surviving a stroke of bad luck.

A day after Hobart Hurricanes wicket-keeper batter Ben McDermott smashed a six that hit the roof at the Docklands Stadium, Adelaide Strikers‘ dancer swaggered around his fielding skills to register another enthralling moment in the ongoing Big Bash League 2023/24.

Something very different from how a Brisbane Heat fan had once celebrated Matt Renshaw’s catch, this happened during the recently concluded 27th match of the season against Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval. In a unique spectacle, the dancer was not only keenly aware of a fast-moving ball traveling towards him but was also prepared to catch it. Astonishingly, he was also adept enough to successfully grab the opportunity.

The opportunity was created only after Scorchers captain Aaron Hardie (35) hit Strikers spinner Lloyd Pope (2/36) for a six over deep square leg. Pope’s ordinary leg-break delivery was pitched between off and middle only to be hit with the angle by the right-handed batter, on one knee.

The dancer caught the ball, released it back  onto the ground, and then kept on dancing like it was a normal routine for him. It was a high-spirited moment for everyone on the ground. To be frank, such moments involving people apart from the players, like when a fan was hurt after missing a crowd catch, aren’t really rare in BBL history.

“The Strikers’ dancers, they can catch… Come on give us a back flip. It was only about 57 metre right there. Picked it up beautifully. Can’t believe it. Tell you what, lucky he had his eye on the game there,” commentators said while calling the match.

Lloyd Pope Takes Revenge By Dismissing Aaron Hardie

In what was turning out to be a knock where Aaron Hardie had started to ensure a competitive innings total for the visitors, it ended up with a below par score after Pope had something up his sleeve the very next legal delivery.

With Hardie having already hit three sixes by then and not at all looking to slow down, he forcibly dragged the following delivery from outside the off-stump. In the process, it hit him high on the bat only to balloon up in the air before being safely grabbed by Adam Hose at deep mid-wicket. Hardie, who didn’t hit a single four during the course of his 27-ball stay, scored 12 (8) at a strike rate of 150 against Pope.

Hobart Hurricanes wicket-keeper batter Ben McDermott (25) has become the latest beneficiary of a bizarre Big Bash League rule. Known to hit gargantuan sixes, the right-handed batter managed to hit the roof at the Docklands Stadium with his only six of the 26th match of the ongoing BBL 13.

As per the rule pertaining to a ball hitting the roof, a batter is awarded six runs even if the ball would’ve landed in the hands of a fielder in its absence. It all happened on the second delivery of the second over when McDermott stepped out to hit an ordinary Tom Rogers delivery towards the mid-wicket region.

Even though a ball hitting the roof has happened several times in the history of the tournament, what sets this incident apart is it never falling back on the ground. Even at the cost of sounding unreal, the same happened as the ball remained stuck on the roof. As a result, the fourth umpire had to run to the playing area with a box of replacement balls.

“He’s swung hard. That’s going to hit the roof. Is it? I think it’s stuck up there. That’s incredible. That’s a massive hit from Ben McDermott. Came down the wicket. That has stuck in the roof at Marvel,” commentators said with excitement.

McDermott, however, couldn’t make the most of the opportunity in spite of receiving a fortunate gift on the sixth ball of his innings against Melbourne Renegades. Having also hit three fours at a strike rate of 108.69, the 29-year old player walked back to the pavilion right after the completion of the powerplay.

For the unversed, it isn’t for the first time when Ben McDermott’s six has enticed attention for a strange reason. A year after hitting the roof at the Aurora Stadium during BBL 2020/21, one of his sixes had hit a fan on his forehead resulting in the flow of blood.

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee made the most of his knowledge with respect to India and Hindi to churn out a unique moment while calling the 26th match of the ongoing 13th season of the Big Bash League between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades.

With commentators communicating with players in between a match is a long-standing custom in the BBL, it was Lee’s chance of talking to Hurricanes all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary (1/16). For the unversed, the same has been adopted in the cash-rich Indian Premier League as well.

Chaudhary, second Indian cricketer to partake in the BBL, was surprised when Lee asked about his well-being in Hindi. Even though it was a brief conversation, it was certainly enough to elate Indian audiences watching the matches from their screens back home. The incident happened after the commencement of the ninth over of the match at the Docklands Stadium.

“Nikhil, Brett Lee here, aap kaise ho [How are you]?,” Lee asked.

Main theek hoon [I’m fine], thank you,” Chaudhary responded.

Mera Hindi thoda thoda. Aap se milke khushi hui [I know little Hindi. Glad to meet you],” Lee replied.

Dhanyawaad [Thank you], your Hindi is too good, mate,” an astonished Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary, a fan of former India captain Virat Kohli, has played well for Hobart this season. Speaking of the recently concluded contest, he picked his second BBL wicket in the form of South Africa wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock (20). Chaudhary, who bowled a fuller delivery outside the off-stump, tempted the left-handed batter into slicing it to Riley Meredith (1/34) at backward point.

Brett Lee Is Fond Of India

Brett Lee, who first toured India as a 17-year-old in 1994, is one of the most loved foreign athletes in the country. Having made his Test debut against India five years later, he has confessed his love for Indian food on multiple occasions.

Lee, who owns a coffee shop called “Fusions Cafe & Book shop”, also owns a restaurant that specializes in Indian cuisine. Playing in the Indian Premier League for six years further increased his bond with the country. Additionally, he has also performed commentary duties in the nation in the past.

Lee, a talented guitarist, once recorded a duet song titled ‘You’re The One For Me’ with Indian legend Asha Bhosle. Furthermore, he also acted in Ajit Pal Mangat’s Hindi movie titled ‘Victory’ (2009). In the same year, he even walked the ramp in a Fashion Show promoting “Save the Girl Child” campaign. His love affair with India also saw him endorsing quite a few brands once upon a time.

As rare as it may sound, cricketers have played their first Test match as captain in the past. Unsurprisingly, it all started with Australia’s Dave Gregory and England’s James Lillywhite (Jnr) in the inaugural Test way back in 1877.

From then on, such instances were repeated frequently until the start of this century. However, the topic has come back into cricketing consciousness since the announcement of South Africa’s 14-member squad for an upcoming tour of New Zealand. Batter Neil Brand, who will lead a squad comprising a total of seven uncapped players including himself, is all in readiness of joining an elite list.

Brand, a campaigner of 51 first-class matches, will become the 35th player (ninth South African) to captain a team on Test debut. Fresh off beating West Indies A 2-1 in a three-match series, Brand’s leadership skills with South Africa A played a role in the selectors bestowing him with a significant promotion. In addition to his six centuries and 20 half-centuries at an average of 39.27 as a left-handed batter, the left-arm spinner in him also dismissed 72 batters across 81 attempts.

His comparatively short-lived career, however, might still not be enough to lead a national side away from home. Many, including the legendary Steve Waugh, are questioning the whole idea of preferring a T20 league over a Test series on the part of CSA (Cricket South Africa).

When cricket was at its nascent stage in several countries, teams had no option than to appoint entirely inexperienced players as captains. Lord Harris, who rebuilt Kent and became an able administrator later on, also led a team to the USA and Canada. He is often regarded as the “single most influential man to have been involved in cricket”.

Some of the below mentioned names eventually pursued other interests besides cricket. While South Africa’s Owen Dunell was an association footballer and Alfred Richards played Rugby at the highest level, England’s Charles Aubrey Smith became a stage and film actor and Johnny Douglas won a Gold Medal in Boxing.

Interestingly, England’s Frank Mann and George Mann are the only father-son duo to have both captained their nation in their respective first Test match.

In 1995, 10 months after his ODI debut, New Zealand’s Lee Germon was the last player to don the captain’s hat on Test debut when it wasn’t his country’s first-ever Test. Germon’s appointment was somewhat reasonable considering how he was the most successful captain of Canterbury, his first-class team.

That being said, with the sport becoming more global and popular than ever in the recent years, it’s almost impossible to achieve such a feat, making Brand’s accomplishment even more special.

A day before the start of his last Test match, veteran Australia batter David Warner gardened additional attention for losing his Baggy Green in transit. Warner, who received a Guard of Honour while coming out to bat in the 112th match of his 12-year old Test career, had taken to the social media platform Instagram yesterday to lodge a plea in the hope of being returned a priced possession.

For those who are unaware, the incident happened while the Australian team was travelling from Melbourne to Sydney for the ongoing third Test. In his post, the southpaw requested the supposed thief to return his Baggy Green whilst assuring that no action would be taken against him/her. A desperate Warner even announced gifting his Australian backpack to the one who will return his cap.

Baggy Green, another name for an Australian cricketer’s Test cap, holds unmatched importance because it is presented right before a debut. Since it is a symbol of national pride for Test cricketers in the nation, one understands the distress behind Warner’s entreaty. Co-incidentally, this isn’t the first time when he has lost his Test cap.

Six years ago, during the only Test that Australia have lost against Bangladesh thus far, Warner had no option than to wear a new Baggy Green after apparently losing the original one. Warner, who scored a gritty hundred in the following match, was later informed by wife Candice Warner with regard to finding it at home.

Is David Warner’s Baggy Green Really Stolen?

Warner, whose Baggy Green was stolen in reality during his journey to Sydney, had also lost his bats back in 2016. Unlike the latest case, he had even posted a picture of the guy with his stolen bats.

In his post on Tuesday, the 37-year old player confirmed that the airline hasn’t been able to find a culprit in spite of going through the CCTV footage present at the airport.

“If you are the person, who was either working for the company driving it to and from the airport or working for @qantas and have, by chance, just wanted the backpack, I have one for,” read a part of Warner’s Instagram caption.

Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan Sense A Conspiracy

Sharing their views on the unfortunate incident, former Australia wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist and former England captain Michael Vaughan shared a plot about the same during their appearance on Club Prairie Fire Podcast.

While the pair laid emphasis on there hardly being anything in Warner’s Baggy Green for a thief, former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath, a guest on the show, was sarcastically blamed by Gilchrist for snitching to ensure that the left-handed batter wears the Baggy Pink in his farewell Test. For those unversed, converting the New Year’s Test into a Pink Test is a joint initiative by McGrath and CA (Cricket Australia).

As for the conspiracy theory, Gilchrist and Vaughan were confident that Warner’s Baggy Green had been stolen by a teammate, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in particular. McGrath, who took no time to second the thought, even pointed out wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey‘s role in it.

“Yeah, I say Mitch [Mitchell Marsh] is up there. He’s a very funny lad. When you look at the batsmen, they are a bit boring, aren’t they, Vaughney [Michael Vaughan]? And then the fast bowlers are more exciting. It’s the wicket-keeper that sort of goes in between that you really have to keep the eyes on. So, you know, Alex Carey could be up there as well but Mitch Marsh, I think is a bit of a prankster,” McGrath responded.

Marsh, a certified prankster, had marked his run-up ahead of the first Ashes 2023 Test in an attempt to play mind games with the opposition despite not being a part of the Playing XI at Edgbaston. In the following match at the Lord’s, Carey had gathered immense headlines for stumping England wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow in an astutely legal manner.

Did David Warner Get His Baggy Green Back?

Still to get his Baggy Green back, Warner wore a Baggy Pink at the SCG on Wednesday. In an interview with SEN Radio as quoted by Fox Cricket, Howard Warner, David’s father, expressed his anguish at the thief.

“Whatever scumbag has taken it is going to have to lay it off very shortly. They’ll find it dumped somewhere. I know he’s emotional. He would love to walk out with the baggy green on,” Howard said.

Warner, one of the modern-day all-format greats, has scored 26 Test centuries across 203 innings at an average of 7.7 innings per century. Since his Test debut in 2011, no other opening batter has been able to outperform Warner in this facet. Appreciated by fans around the world, Warner has best wishes aplenty with respect to finding his Baggy Green before the conclusion of this match.
