The sport of F1 is as technical as any other and consists of a lot of complicated terminology. An F1 car’s parts make up for most of these technical terminologies. An example of the same is ‘push’ and ‘pull’ rods, which feature on each car. But what exactly are they, and what purpose do these rods serve?

Simply put, these rods play a role in the car’s suspension. They are essential in managing the car’s interaction with the bumps on the track. Furthermore, they help in maximizing tire contact with the tracks to ensure maximum power output from the car.

Geometry and Center of Gravity play crucial roles in choosing between the two. A pull rod results in a flex in droop, which leads to the wheels going down. Meanwhile, a push rod leads to a flex with the wheel in bump, meaning the wheels go up.

However, before diving deeper into the mechanics of both rods, it is important to understand the suspension of an F1 car.

What is suspension and why is it important in F1?

Much like real-world roads, F1 tracks have a lot of bumps and kerbs on them. Tires run over it, and force is applied to the wheels. Suspensions are important to manage the feedback and ensure smooth sailing for the drivers. Without suspensions, the tires would effectively be attached directly to the car’s chassis.

As such, any impact would directly send feedback to the car’s body. Not only will this make for an extremely unpleasant ride, but will also result in uncontrollable bouncing of the car. The bouncing, in turn, will lead to a lack of tire grip on the track, potentially resulting in crashes.

On an F1 car, several points connect the wheels to the chassis. ‘Wishbones’ feature on the top and bottom, sloping diagonally when stationary. Between these wishbones, there is a suspension rod, which runs from the top of the wheel uprights to the springs. The entire setup makes up for an F1 car’s suspension.

Suspensions allow the kinetic energy to be stored by a spring known as a ‘torsion spring.’ The force from bumps compresses springs and allows tires to continue gripping the track. However, should a driver take too much kerb, it leads to their cars momentarily taking off.

What is the difference between push rod and pull rod?

Pull rods first entered the F1 grid back in the 1970s. Brabham’s Gordon Murray introduced the concept, seeing the need for the cars of the day. Formula-1 Dictionary explains these rods have a strut from the outer end of the upper wishbones running diagonally to the lower end of the chassis. It ‘pulls’ a rocker to operate the spring.

The advantage of pull rods lies in the possibility of making a car’s ride height lower. A lower height results in a lower center of gravity, allowing a car to hug the tracks close.

Push rods, meanwhile, do the exact opposite. The strut runs from the lower wishbone to the upper edge of the chassis. Impacts ‘push’ the rocker that operates the spring in this scenario. With push rods, the cars run relatively higher off the ground, allowing them to not take as much plank wear as the cars of old.

Most modern F1 cars are now switching to push rods. Given the high nose of the latest cars, it is almost impossible for teams to locate a rocker low enough in the chassis to use pull rods and have the correct geometry. Hence, a push rod is the way forward.

Which is better?

A multitude of factors play a role in a team deciding upon which type of rod to use in their suspension setup. Access to the technology, complexity of the task, and cost are all contributing factors. However, none of them are as important as a car’s aerodynamic setup. The use of a specific rod depends on the team’s aerodynamic vision for their car.

While the nose makes it difficult to implement a pull rod, a push rod ends up restricting access to some other components of the car. As is the case with any other component on the car, changing or altering the setup of the rods results in a knock-on effect and alters the behavior of the car. As such, the better choice once again boils down to the team’s vision for their car.

Lewis Hamilton deserves huge credit for waking the entire F1 community up, just weeks before the season gets underway. He announced that he would join Ferrari in 2025, fulfilling a childhood dream of his.  There could be other factors that influenced this move, but driving for the iconic Italian stable has to be right up there. This prestige once had a place in Max Verstappen‘s heart too, but unlike Hamilton, he avoided the Ferrari temptation.

In a video that the F1 Chequered Flag shared,  Verstappen can be seen making his way to the Red Bull motorhomes. There, the group prepared the room with balloons and several photos in his honor, as he just won the world championship. One of the photos showed a young Verstappen, dressed in all red, sporting the Ferrari colors.

As soon as he saw that photo, Verstappen apologized to Christian Horner. Later in another interview, the Dutchman explained why he donned the Ferrari shirt. Verstappen’s father Jos, shared a good friendship with Ferrari and F1 legend Michael Schumacher, which contributed to his childhood fashion choice.

He is happy to be at Red Bull, and even though he recognizes Ferrari’s amazing history, and brand value, Verstappen will not be lured away from Milton-Keynes.

Could Max Verstappen choose Mercedes?

Mercedes will now have to look for a replacement for Lewis Hamilton, before the 2025 season commences. Rumor has it that Toto Wolff was even open to having Verstappen drive for them. The reason behind this is simple. Verstappen is the best in F1 at the moment, and has won three consecutive world titles.

However, Red Bull will not be worried about Verstappen ditching them. Speaking about the same to OE24, team chief Helmut Marko reminded everyone of Verstappen’s history with Mercedes.

He said, ” Too much has happened in the past. I just remember Silverstone or the turmoil at the finale in Abu Dhabi. This runs deep.”

What Marko intended to convey is that Verstappen would never forget incidents like the 2021 Silverstone crash, and prejudice he experienced on social media after the 2021 Abu Dhabi Finale.

While winding up, the Austrian made it apparent that Verstappen is very committed to Red Bull. The Dutchman and Red Bull have inked a long-term deal that expires in 2028. The 26-year-old will therefore not be thinking about moving to Mercedes, at least unless Red Bull drop off massively.

Amid a rather chaotic last couple of weeks in F1, fans rejoice over the news that Drive to Survive’s season 6 will be released soon. The popular Netflix series focuses on the intricacies of the F1 world. It lifts the curtain and lets fans see the underbelly of the world they adore. The latest season of the series, as reported by ‘Tudum by Netflix,’ has ten episodes, premiering on the 23rd of February. However, the absence of Max Verstappen from the promos has become a cause for concern.

The latest installment follows the 2023 season, which turned out to be a record-breaking campaign for Max Verstappen. He aimed to improve his 2022 performance and did an unexpectedly impressive job. However, it looks like the emphasis will be on the smaller storylines this time around.

The season opener will focus on Aston Martin and their growing financial issues. Lawrence Stroll wants to do everything in his power to ensure his team’s resurgence, and cameras follow him in his pursuit. The next three episodes capture Nyck de Vries’ axing, McLaren‘s dip, and the battle between Haas and Williams, respectively. Alpine drivers take center stage in episode 5 as their rivalry reaches new heights.

Episode 6 follows Lewis Hamilton as the 7X world champion contemplates his future in F1. The following episodes see a light shine on athletes and celebs investing in Alpine while also focusing on Ferrari bringing Fred Vasseur on board. Episode 9 lays emphasis on Daniel Ricciardo coming back to a driving seat after almost a one-year break. The season finale dives deeper into the rivalry of Mercedes and Ferrari at the end of the 2023 season.

Why isn’t Max Verstappen in DTS season 6?

It is no surprise that Max Verstappen is not the focus of Drive to Survive. In an interview with TIME, he expressed his concerns over the growing marketing-centric moves by the sport’s authorities. He believes the sport is starting to lay emphasis on things that aren’t as important as racing.

Hence, he grows wary of where F1 is headed. With three F1 championships already under his belt, the Dutchman isn’t hungry for any records. Hence, if the dramatization continues, Verstappen will not stick around to experience it.

Drive to Survive had a massive impact on the sport’s viewership numbers, especially in America. With the earlier seasons detailing Verstappen’s story, the Dutchman saw a huge fanbase form in the US. However, the 26-year-old isn’t a fan of the dramatization of his story. He doesn’t want to hear his story from someone else’s perspective. Furthermore, given the series is essentially a recap of a season, Verstappen feels it is unnecessary for him to be a part of the narrative since he already knows what will happen.

2023 saw a crucial off-track development take shape for Alpine. An investment group led by Otro Capital boosted the team’s financial status by bringing in huge funding. Led by NFL stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, the group invested more than $200 million in the Enstone-based team. While many would think Alpine would use the money to sport a much better car than 2023, the reality is slightly different. According to a report from Formu1a.uno, they plan on improving mid-season.

The A524 may not be at its best at the start of the 2024 season. Instead, the team plans on bringing mid-season upgrades to improve the car step by step. For Alpine, the name of the game is stability. They aim to provide the staff with a car that is stable enough to work on during weekends with non-limiting choices. Hence, they are focusing on mid-season improvements rather than featuring a strong car from the get-go.

Preparations for the new season are almost over for each team, and Alpine is no different. They saw a major reshuffling in their staff owing to the huge cash influx. A revamped management roster oversaw a significant change in the team’s philosophy. Instead of focusing on the long-term future, they chose to “fight for positions that matter in the next two years.”

Heavy investments shall play a pivotal role in the stark change in philosophy. Aside from Otro Capital and Co. chiming in with their funding, several others preceded them in investing in Alpine. RedBird Capital Partners, Maximum Effort Investments, and Ryan Reynolds also pitched in with investments. Together, they bought a 24% stake in the team.

Can Alpine improve its 2023 performance?

2023 saw Alpine lie in the middle of the ground, basically in a league of their own. The team scored 120 points and secured two podiums throughout 2023. Each of their drivers secured one podium, allowing their team to finish sixth in the constructors’ championship. No team below them managed to secure a podium finish. Furthermore, Alpine was comfortable in their position, given the next-best team was 92 points behind them. Aston Martin was fifth in the rankings, 160 points ahead of Alpine.

According to Pierre Gasly, last season’s Alpine car had a small operating window. He felt the car had much better balance at the start of the season than towards the end. Gasly conceded the overall potential of the car was nowhere near the top teams, and hence, it wasn’t easy to operate. Alpine’s Technical Director, Matt Harman, also admitted to them being “aerodynamically outgunned” by their opposition. He added they ran out of time to develop the RE22 power unit despite having the necessary tech.

The team is focused on not repeating these mistakes and taking full advantage of their management team. However, a question mark remains over their performances for the 2024 season.

In this day and age, there’s enormous competition between media houses to get the most engaging content out for more click and views. This ‘unhealthy’ competition has its grip in F1 too and stars like Lewis Hamilton suffer as a result. Former Ferrari man Peter Windsor, in his recent interview with Cameron F1, pointed this out and spoke about how the seven-time world champion often faced media bullying.

Hamilton, being the most successful and popular F1 driver, has boundless weight in his words. Therefore, his statements are of extreme importance to the media houses, something they long for endlessly. Therefore, they often go beyond their professional boundary to extract ‘content’ and in doing so, end up ‘abusing’ Hamilton and other drivers in the process.

Windsor said,

He’s [Hamilton] been abused so many times by stupid questions from journalists who just want to provoke him into saying something that they can misquote and put in a big black bold headline. He’s just given up really talking to the press in any sort of meaningful way and it’s very sad that the press these days has done that.”

Hamilton is one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, and this part of his persona is heavily respected by the media and fans alike. His achievements speak for themselves, so no one can question his immense talent. On the other hand, he has several ventures he tends to focus on outside of F1.

Hamilton has often shared his thoughts about veganism. climate change and racism, and is quite outspoken. Additionally, he has a huge celebrity status, and hangs out with some of the biggest stars in the world, both inside and outside the world of sports. His interviews and quotes related to similar topics often leads to him facing a slew of negative coverage.

Lewis Hamilton’s negative coverage shows how much media has changed

While explaining the plight Lewis Hamilton faces by the media, Peter Windsor spoke about an incident that involved the great Jim Clark. Windsor unraveled how the late British F1 driver won the 1963 French Grand Prix and decided to have a different day at office.

Clark, after winning the race, crossed the track and walked up to the press center filled with journalists. He, instead of going for the traditional post-race interview, went for a quiet little chat with them. This is something the drivers in Formula 1 cannot think of now.

Windsor, who has vast experience working with the media in Formula 1 also shared his disappointment about how his field has changed, but not for good. According to him, it has become vicious and “quite nasty.”

The side effects of this side of the media are sure to harm the next generation and take a toll on them. Peter Windsor concluded by saying how terrible media bullying has become. With this he also mentioned drivers, who are public figures, are also human beings and deserve privacy.

Even before the 2024 season gets underway, Ferrari  have their eyes on the long-term prize. Along with setting the SF-24 up for success, they have made big upgrades to their roster for the upcoming seasons. While Charles Leclerc has reportedly signed a $30 million a year contract extension with Ferrari, the Maranell0-based outfit has also secured Lewis Hamilton on a whopping $100,000,000 per annum multi-year deal.

That being said, the financial details are all speculated in the media, as no team has confirmed any amount. When prompted about why, team principal Fred Vasseur explained, as quoted on X (formerly Twitter) via Motorsport.com Italia,

We decided this simply to not provide information that could be useful to other teams,”

While the financials of the deal have been broken out by media reports, the exact duration of the deals offered to both their drivers remains unknown. In any case, the Italian team does not follow a strict salary structure for the duration of their contracts. Both Leclerc and Carlos Sainz received a better paying salary every year of their association with the team.

However, this secrecy is a new for Ferrari. In the past, with both Leclerc and Sainz, the terms of the deal were clear.  This latest Leclerc extension and Hamilton’s signing could start a trend that all F1 teams would want to follow.

After Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, are F1 driver contracts going to become top-secret?

Ferrari isn’t the only team on the 2024 grid to adopt a veil of secrecy with respect to their star driver’s contract. McLaren, too, have been very coy about the latest contract extension signed by Lando Norris.

Even Williams has thrown a spanner in the works this year. Earlier, most outlets believed that Alex Albon’s contract would expire at the end of the 2024 season.  Now, it is being reported that the British-Thai driver is secured till at least the 2025 season concludes.

F1 driver agreements are very tricky and complex legal documents. With bonuses, performance-related exit clauses and options, it makes sense why even a small leak could enable a rival to poach a driver. This was apparent in the entire Oscar Piastri Alpine saga that saw him join McLaren instead of the French team.

Hence, it won’t be surprising to see this level of secrecy becoming a norm in the F1 paddock soon.

The 2024 season hasn’t even started, but Lewis Hamilton’s decision to join Ferrari next season has already given the F1 community a lot to talk about. In the buildup, both Christian Horner and Max Verstappen gave their thoughts on Hamilton’s decision to ditch Mercedes for Ferrari. Verstappen was quick to wish the Briton good luck and Horner rather called it a “brave” decision, per Racefans.net. Now, ex-Ferrari man, Peter Windsor has come out negate Horner’s comments.

According to Windsor, Hamilton choosing Ferrari is not a brave decision but logical. The seven-time world champion isn’t gambling on Ferrari being quicker than Mercedes. In fact, Windsor suggests that Hamilton just wants to enjoy the twilight years of his F1 career, away from all the drama and negativity, which started becoming a norm at Mercedes over the last two years.

On the CameronF1 podcast, Windsor explained,

“He’s thinking, ‘I’m at the backend of my career, I really want to enjoy my Formula 1. I’m really not enjoying it at the moment, even if Mercedes is a quick car, I’ve got all this drama with George [Russell]. I just want a change of scenery, I want to enjoy my life, I want to breathe.'”

Red Bull team principal Horner compared this move to Hamilton’s shock transfer from McLaren to Mercedes in 2013. At that time, the move was thought to be a mistake, but Hamilton ended up winning six titles with the Silver Arrows. The tough decision that Hamilton made, turned him into an F1 legend. Horner feels that this bravery could pay dividends once again.

Windsor on the other hand believes that Hamilton is chasing peace of mind and being more relaxed at Ferrari could also help him perform better out on the track.

Has George Russell forced Lewis Hamilton out of Mercedes?

Windsor is a firm believer that one of the major factors driving Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes at the end of this season is his teammate George Russell. It is widely speculated that Hamilton never really wanted Russell alongside him at Mercedes. Instead, he preferred the companionship of Valtteri Bottas.

That being said, at the end of 2021, the team and especially Toto Wolff believed it was the right time to bid farewell to Bottas. Mercedes thought  Russell was the perfect candidate to shadow and eventually take over the reigns from Hamilton. In other words, from Hamilton’s point of view, Mercedes was probably planning for a future without him.

This may have miffed the seven-time champion to an extent. Additionally, in his very first season alongside Hamilton, Russell beat him in the championship standings. This might as well have started the countdown on Hamilton’s stint with the team.

From 2025 onwards, Hamilton and Russell will go up against each other, suiting up for different teams.

Since making his debut, Lewis Hamilton has gone on to establish himself as one of the best drivers in F1 history, with seven world titles. He won six of those seven world titles with Mercedes, and after 11 years, he announced that he will be joining Ferrari from the 2025 season onwards. An iconic driver move in its own right, this also gives Hamilton a chance to cross paths with his old mentor, Fred Vasseur once again. Vasseur, who is Ferrari’s team principal, was also Hamilton’s boss back in his F3 and GP2 days days.

Even in his junior open-wheel career, Hamilton was a class apart from the field. While reminiscing about Hamilton’s 2005 F3 campaign, the Frenchman narrated, as quoted on X (formerly Twitter)

“His first year in Formula 3 he won 18/21 races, but beyond that I think it’s the high level of how demanding he is of himself and of those who work with him. I think it’s a characteristic of champions.”

According to Hamilton’s biography authored by Frank Worrall, the Stevenage-born driver wrapped up the F3 title in 2005 with 4 races to go which prompted them to pay a personal tribute to him. They labelled him as the best ever driver in the series. After the season concluded, Autosport Magazine featured him in their Top 50 Drivers of 2005 issue, ranking him in 24th.

Hamilton extended his exploits into GP2 as well. Still being mentored by Vasseur, he won won the GP2 title (equivalent to today’s F2 championship) in his rookie season. Naturally, since then, the Briton has looked up to Vasseur. In 2025, the two of them will finally be reunited.

What prompted the Lewis Hamilton Ferrari move?

When reports and rumors were starting to trickle in that Hamilton was actually leaving Mercedes for Ferrari, many thought the news was fake. However, in a short span of time, F1, Mercedes, and Ferrari confirmed the reports. This sent the entire F1 world into a frenzy. Many even regarded it as the greatest driver transfer of all time.

Neither Mercedes nor Hamilton have divulged the real reason for their split. So, one can only take an educated guess. After suffering two winless seasons with the Silver Arrows, the mere idea of winning his 8th title with Ferrari could have been irresistible for Hamilton. Moreover, this was been probably the last chance for the 39-year-old to drive for Ferrari given he had already expressed that it was his dream to do so.

That being said, his affinity towards Vasseur could have convinced him to join Ferrari. Nonetheless, Vasseur and Hamilton still have a season to go before they can rekindle their once successful alliance.

Charles Leclerc has grabbed all the limelight recently after he released four new songs on February 16. In an episode titled, ‘Dreamers,’ the Monegasque produced his recent songs in collaboration with famous French composer and pianist Sofiane Pamart. All of Leclerc’s songs are available on Spotify. The Ferrari driver’s latest music is likely to grab his fans’ attention, having received immense love for his singles last year.

Several of Leclerc’s music topped the iTunes charts and he became a music sensation as a result. Here is a deeper look at all of the music Charles Leclerc has released on his Spotify account and some other frequently asked questions about the same.

How many songs has Charles Leclerc released on Spotify?

Prior to his latest collaboration with Sofiane Pamart, Charles Leclerc released a total of three hit singles last year. The Monegasque titled them AUS23 (1:1), MIA23 (1:2), and MON23 (1:3).

Among these singles, AUS23 (1:1) garnered the most interest from the fans. This single had over a million plays on Spotify itself. One possible reason why AUS23 (1:1) was loved by fans the most is because it was Leclerc’s first release.

With his latest release of ‘Dreamers,’ Charles Leclerc has now released a total of seven songs on Spotify.

What is the meaning of the titles that he has given to his songs?

One frequently asked question about Charles Leclerc’s songs is what is the meaning behind his titles. Many fans on social media have often wondered why the Monegasque would give such simple names for his titles.

When asked about the same in an interview with Monaco Hebdo last year, the 26-year-old revealed that he had trouble deciding upon the names for his music. He revealed that since he does not consider himself a professional artist, he wanted to keep the names of his music simple. As a result, he decided to ask his race engineers for advice.

He then explained the advice he received from his engineers by stating, “I asked them if they had any idea what to call these titles. I didn’t want to give a “real” song title, it sounded too professional, and I don’t consider myself an artist. They said to me: ‘You should name them after the last Grand Prix you did’. So that’s what I did“.

What is the inspiration behind Charles Leclerc’s songs?

In another interview, Charles Leclerc revealed that he has always been passionate about music. Hence, whenever he returns home to Monaco, he revealed that he takes some time off to play his piano. However, he revealed that all the music he has released so far has been random and that he never had a plan to produce them the way he did.

In an interview last year, the 26-year-old said, “I play as soon as I get home in Monte Carlo. Three days ago I got on the piano and I came out with something I liked. My songs are always born like this“.

Who is Charles Leclerc’s favorite artist?

If Charles Leclerc does not have any particular inspiration when he produces his music, then the question that arises is whether any artist is his favorite. In an interview with ESPN in 2022, the Monegasque revealed that German music composer Hans Zimmer and British rock band Coldplay are two of his favorites.

Does Charles Leclerc want to collaborate with Lewis Hamilton?

Another F1 driver who is very much interested in music is Lewis Hamilton. The Briton himself has lent his voice to a song, Pipe, sung by American singer Christina Aguilera. He did so under the pseudonym, XNDA.

The primary reason why the 39-year-old chose a pseudonym is because he revealed he is shy when it comes to singing. Hence, he did not want his fans to know that it was him who had collaborated with Aguilera.

However, that has not stopped Charles Leclerc from wanting to collaborate with the seven-time F1 champion. The Monegasque revealed in an interview last year that he could play the piano, whereas Hamilton could sing for their collaboration.

Since Hamilton will join Leclerc at Ferrari next year, there is a real possibility that such a collaboration could take place between the two. The Italian outfit can perhaps ask both their drivers to perform together for one of the team’s promotional events.

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most recognizable sporting personalities in the world. While a part of it may be because of his exploits as a seven-time F1 world champion, Hamilton is also known to be a fashion icon. Most recently, the 39-year-old proved he could be a star, both on and off the track, when he made a public appearance, sporting a classy ‘Matrix‘ look. The final piece of accessory that defined his outfit was a $9,500 worth pair of Tiffany & Co. earrings, per pictures floating on Instagram.

The earrings that Hamilton was sporting at a Vogue event are a part of the American luxury jewelry giants’ collection. Labeled the ‘Tiffany Victoria‘, the earrings are a .64 carat platinum with marquise diamonds accessory. Their cost begins at around $9,500 (the small variant) and can go as high as up to $27,200 for a pair.

In addition to his earrings, the Briton was sporting a classic all-black outfit. Hamilton was actually in attendance at the British Vogue x Tiffany & Co. Fashion and Film Party hosted in London on the 18th of February.

This event came as a “Post-BAFTAs and pre-final day of London Fashion Week” gala, according to British Vogue’s feature on the event. This party was also graced by the likes of Regé-Jean Page and Nicola Coughlan of Netflix’s Bridgerton fame, and designers including Harris Reed, Charlie Casely-Hayford, and Molly Goddard.

Tiffany & Co. became the crown jewel of Lewis Hamilton’s wardrobe

Just as Lewis Hamilton is considered a legend in F1, his exquisite wardrobe partner, Tiffany & Co., is considered the go-to jeweler for many A-list Hollywood celebs and global superstars from all domains.

For instance, in the moment of her crowing achievement, American pop icon Miley Cyrus was spotted sporting a Tiffany & Co. bracelet as she accepted the prestigious 66th Grammy Awards for the ‘Record of the Year’ and ‘Best Solo Performance’, as shared on Instagram by the designers themselves.

Moreover, British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa was seen dropping an appearance at the BAFTAs, wearing “Tiffany High Jewelry designs in platinum and 18k gold with unenhanced orange sapphires of over 19 total carats.”

Hamilton too really considers jewelry as an integral part of his daily wear. He would even term it as irreplaceable. Naturally, given the strict clampdown of jewelry in the cockpit, Hamilton and the FIA have been at loggerheads for a while now.
